Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification
How Department of Defense Contractors can become CMMC Certified
The Department of Defense announced the development of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). The CMMC is a framework aimed at assessing and enhancing the cybersecurity of the Defense Industrial Base and controlled unclassified information within the supply chain.
The concept of a CMMC framework was created in response to a series of high-profile cyber security breaches of DoD information. CMMC will review and combine various cybersecurity standards and best practices to improve cyber hygiene of companies and contractors that work with the DoD. Any companies doing business with government are required to be CMMC-certified to verify they have met the appropriate level of cybersecurity for their contract.

What is CMMC?
CMMC stands for “Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification.” It is the Deparment of Defense’s response to creating a cybersecurity assessment model and certification program for businesses.
Improve Cyber Hygiene
CMMC will review and combine various cybersecurity standards and best practices to improve cyber hygiene of companies and contractors that work with the DoD.
What does this mean?
Every defense contract of contractors and subcontractors, whether they deal with sensitive information or not, will have the effectiveness of their cybersecurity practices scored on a scale of 1 to 5
Why was it created?
The DoD is using the CMMC to assess and enhance the cybersecurity posture of the Defense Industrial Base in an attempt ot protect controlled unclassified information.
What is CMMC?
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, or CMMC, is the next stage in the Department of Defense’s efforts to properly secure the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). In the simplest of terms, the DoD is creating a cybersecurity assessment model and certification program.
CMMC Levels
There will be five cumulative cyber security certification levels to the CMMC:
- Level 1 – “Basic Cyber Hygiene”
- Level 2 – “Intermediate Cyber Hygiene”
- Level 3 – “Good Cyber Hygiene”
- Level 4 – “Proactive”
- Level 5 – “Advanced / Progressive”
Who Needs to be CMMC Certified?
All companies conducting business with the DoD, including subcontractors, must be CMMC certified after passing a CMMC Audit to verify they have met the appropriate level of cybersecurity for their business. Contractors that are noncompliant will not be able to retain DoD contracts.
How to Become Certified?
Contractors and subcontractors will be required to be certified by a third-party auditor to assess their internal cybersecurity technical practices and processes.
The most effective way to meet the CMMC cybersecurity requirements is to outsource the task to an IT company that specializes in CMMC Consulting. An outsourced provider will have the advanced tools to monitor and respond to security incidents and resources required to help you get and stay compliant.

Testimonials From Current Clients Enjoying Our IT Support
I met Nick and the IT Support SWFL team in 2011. I was in need of some IT organization and it was not something I could easily do alone. Nick and his techs came to my office and documented all the system specifications for each PC. They also numbered each computer and created a network map to correspond to my building layout and where every machine is located.
As time went on, I began to use IT Support SWFL for more and more IT projects like creating backup solutions for my machinery, new workstations and servers, and recently, a long range wireless link between two of my buildings. They are familiar with my Amada setup and working with our Mietrak systems. I would recommend IT Support SWFL to any business in need of quality and personal IT support.
In 2013 we needed a server to get our business files and security in order. We needed to setup permissions for our employees based on their role in the company. We received a quote from IT Support SWFL and decided to go with them. Not only because of the quality of the hardware but because they saw what else we needed. They accounted for not just the server but also the other equipment we needed to get our network up to speed.
As our business grew, we used IT Support SWFL to keep up with the latest technology to keep my employees working fast and efficiently. We invested in Solid State Drives and laptops with high end graphics so our engineers could work faster and create the best work possible. We love to use technology to improve our business and in turn, the quality of our products. Since our initial meeting with the IT Support SWFL team, our business has doubled in size and we had to upgrade to a new location. IT Support SWFL has been with us along the way as we transitioned and transformed into the business we are today.
Start focusing on your business, not your IT problems.
